Trauma-Informed Parenting: Popular online course now available in Spanish

March 1, 2018

Eugene, OR – Virtually all children who enter care have experienced significant trauma in their lives due to abuse and/or neglect. Caring foster, kinship, and adoptive parents often struggle to understand and support children who have experienced trauma and who may react to events in ways that are unexpected. In an effort to further support Spanish-speaking resource parents who are providing nurturing care to these children, FosterParentCollege.com has just released its popular online course, Trauma-Informed Parenting, translated into Spanish.

Crianza sensible al trauma/Trauma-Informed Parenting helps resource parents understand the negative impact of complex trauma and how they can help their child heal while strengthening his or her ability to cope in the future. The course is led by Chris Foreman, MSW, a Liaison for the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress.

This course joins 11 other Spanish-language pre-service courses available at FosterParentCollege.com. “Our mission is to improve the lives of all children in care by strengthening the families and agencies that support them,” said Lee White, founder and president of Foster Parent College. “To that end, we have been dedicated to providing all of our pre-service courses to parents who prefer to learn in Spanish. This course, along with the other pre-service courses, is intended to be used as part of a broader blended training curriculum which combines online courses with in-person meetings.”

Development of the original English version of Trauma-Informed Parenting was made possible through Grant #R44 DA026644 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to Northwest Media, Inc., parent company of FosterParentCollege.com. The Spanish version was funded solely by Northwest Media in response to requests by several states which contract for their parents to use of the FosterParentCollege.com website.

For the past 14 years, FosterParentCollege.com has been providing evidence-based training for resource parents, with over 55 courses currently available online. All courses are self-paced and viewable 24/7 on the FosterParentCollege.com website.
