Anger is one of the most common and most challenging behaviors foster, adoptive and kinship parents face. Many children in care have suffered abuse, neglect, multiple moves, or a host of other disruptive events. While anger may be a natural response to what children have experienced, it can be difficult for the resource family and the child to experience. In this workshop, participants will learn about the types and components of anger through a case study. Workshop participants will work together to identify the components of an outburst, how it is influenced by a child’s biases and beliefs, and then develop an action plan for the case family. Dr. Richard Delaney and his teaching assistants will provide online guidance and support.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • understand the ABCs (components) of anger
  • understand the types of anger outbursts
  • be able to identify warning signs for serious anger problems
  • know the difference between unhealthy and healthy anger
  • know when to seek help
  • know how to develop and implement an action plan for coping with anger
