Youth Counselor who Created Options to Anger Program Dies
December 10, 2008
Eugene, OR - John Crumbley, a respected youth counselor who created the "Developing Options to Anger" program, died of a fatal heart attack on December 1 in his office at the John Serbu Juvenile Justice Center in Eugene, OR, where he served as senior counselor for Oregon Youth Services. He was 57.
Crumbley was known as a calm, caring man with a passion for helping the most angry, violent offenders learn healthier skills for coping with anger provoking situations, and for finding and drawing out the best in each teen.
Crumbley grew up in Southern Oregon and was educated at Harvard and the University of Oregon, where he earned his masters and doctorate degrees and studied psychology under Rudolph Dreikurs and his mentor, Ray Lowe.
"Developing Options to Anger" is the foundation for the
Vstreet.com course, "Options to Anger." Crumbley collaborated with his colleague of 30 years, John Aarons, and Northwest Media President and Producer Lee White on "Options to Anger" and its sequel, "Efficacy: Your Secret Power for Decision Making."
Vstreet.com is the sister site to
FosterParentCollege.com®; both are produced by Eugene-based Northwest Media.
In a statement, White said, "Working with John was pure pleasure. His knowledge, skills and listening qualities were amazing. I am deeply saddened to have lost a friend, more so for the youth at-risk who have lost an excellent mentor."
