Northwest Media President to Participate in Pathways Conference
May 26, 2009
Eugene, OR - How do most foster teens manage their money once they leave the system? Badly. Without parental guidance and role modeling many foster teens fail to learn the basic principles of money management and within five years of aging out many end up homeless or incarcerated.
A new research-based money management program for youth at-risk will be unveiled at the National Pathways to Adulthood Conference in San Diego, June 3-5. A workshop will explore the VStreet.com class,
Money Medical: Healthy Money Management, an animated interactive curriculum that teaches how to budget, save, spend wisely, and manage credit. The class also explores attitudes about money.
The workshop, "Money Happiness Is a Lot More Than Budgeting!" is slated for Session III on Thursday, June 4. Leading the workshop will be the author, Lee White, president of Northwest Media, Inc., parent company of VStreet.com and FosterParentCollege.com®.
Vstreet.com is a comprehensive life skills website with full-length curricula, e-zines and artistic and social features. It is used by mentors, public and private programs for at-risk youth, and schools.
The conference brings together more than 600 professionals from across the country working in the areas of independent living and transitional living programs. The conference is put on by the University of Oklahoma National Child Welfare Resource Center for Youth Development, A service of the US Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau.
